Self Portrait

I started with 5 pictures of myself

Stages

First I started with the general shape of the face and the overall placement of the facial features. I then startes to shade the face.

Then I started to draw the rest of the facial features such as the ears and added darker tones to the hair.

I started to darken the hair a lot more and continued to add shading to the face as well as the tie.

I cleaned up the picture and this is my final product.

Finished Artwork

In my piece of artwork, my intended message was to draw a portrait of myself and being able to portray how I see myself to others. My goal was to draw myself as realistically as possible. The medium that I had chosen for this piece was pencil, using different shades and tones in order to bring this portrait to life. The medium itself is not important, because any medium can produce different types of moods and emotions. Personally, I like to use pencil crayons because they have the ability to blend colours together in an endless spectrum of colour. Although, pencil crayons were definitely and option I chose not to use them because it would prove troublesome on such a large scale piece of paper.

In my piece some of the greatest things that I thought I had done well with this, was the overall shape of the portrait. I felt that the proportions were mostly to scale and the shape of the face and different facial features were well done. I also like the overall shading of the picture and I thought that I captured the different shades and contours of my face using these light and dark shades. Soemthing I thought I could have improved were the ears. The hardest facial structure for me to draw were the ears especially with all the grooves and creases. I used cross hatching and smudging, but I never smudged the whole picture. I only smudged light areas where it was hard to get a light tone without any evidence of shading.
